Step 1 — Design Your Layout

Set matrix size and assign keys Open the Layout Generator. Select rows and columns, then click each cell to assign key functions — keyboard keys, media keys, or macros.

Download print files Pick a fit clearance (0.03–0.12 mm), then click Download Print Files to get the shell and keycap STLs as a ZIP (~20–30 s). Downloads require a registered account with an approved Bambu Lab binding — set it up once on the account page. No keyboard connection needed.

Write the layout before assembly The controller ships with XPAD firmware pre-flashed, so you can use Write Layout to push your key assignments to the controller before assembling the keyboard — no need to re-write after assembly.

Re-edit your layout anytime Key assignments can be edited later. Connect the keyboard and use Read Layout to load its current configuration, then remap keys and write the layout again.

Tip: Write Layout and Read Layout use WebUSB — desktop Chrome or Edge only.

Step 2 — Hall-Effect Calibration

Connect and calibrate Open the Hall-Effect Calibration page, click Connect, then Start Calibration. Press all analog keys fully to capture their ADC range, then click Done.

Set threshold and save Drag each axis slider to set the trigger point. Enable Rapid Trigger if needed, then click Save to Keyboard — settings are written to flash and persist after power-off.

Tip: Re-calibrate after reflashing firmware or if keys feel inconsistent — magnetic ADC ranges shift slightly with temperature over time.

Customize your keycaps Use the Keycap Generator to further customize your keycaps for finer, more personal designs.

Small Deck desktop app Install the Small Deck companion app to launch programs, files and shortcuts from your keys.

A Hands-On Platform for Embedded Development

XPAD uses documented RP2040 hardware and standard firmware interfaces, making it suitable for embedded development practice.

An open-source Arduino firmware is included as an annotated reference, and the hardware accepts any RP2040-compatible firmware — study it, modify it, or replace it.

Small Deck — Launch Software (Optional App)

XPAD Small Deck

An optional, free companion app that lets the F13–F24 keys on your XPAD launch programs, files, folders or URLs. The keyboard works fully without it — power users can also use AutoHotkey / Keyboard Maestro instead.
